  3. DaLabeler v4.5 - a new look and more
  4. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  5.  
  6. With the complete rewrite of the user interface I decided to move the
  7. version reference from 4.1 to 4.5. I thought of making this v5.0, but
  8. the enhancements didn't seem to really require a major version 
  9. reference increase. There is a v4.2 commercial release which will soon
  10. be available.
  11.  
  12. Due to the feedback received from users, I considered which requests
  13. were made most often. I then took those suggestions and made the
  14. following improvements in this release:
  15.  
  16. o Mouse support.
  17.  
  18. o Total new interface for DaLabeler. A rewrite of the interface was
  19.   required so that mouse support could be added to DaLabeler.
  20.   
  21. o Previous versions only read the root directory. Now, v4.5 will read
  22.   files in subdirectories up to 3 deep from the root directory as well.
  23.   
  24. o For those using the 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" labels, the first comment line is
  25.   now printed on the fold of the label. This lets you enter a comment that
  26.   can be read when the disk is stored in a box or tray without needing to
  27.   pick up each to read the comment line. 
  28.  
  29. o Enchanced DOS SHELL option, now allows you to either drop to DOS command
  30.   line or enter DOS command to be executed.
  31.  
  32. There have been other suggestions and I appreciate hearing about any you
  33. might have for DaLabeler. Other suggestions, such as "create a listing of
  34. the labels to a file which I can use to quickly locate a file" are being
  35. looked at for a future release. 
  36.  
  37. Another request that pops up every so often is a request to add support for
  38. laser printers and I would love to add this support. Since I don't own
  39. a laser printer I am unable to write and debug the code to add this support
  40. at this time. Anyone have a good deal on a laser printer? 
  41.  
  42. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to jot down a few comments about
  43. the program when sending in their registration. I'll look to add as many as
  44. time permits.

  48. DaLabeler v4.1 - a maintenance update
  49. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  50.  
  51. o Added function to make selection of available configuration files
  52.   from menu selection. This eliminates the need to recall what your
  53.   exact file name is for your various configuration files.
  54.  
  55. o DaLabeler now strips out "." from the volume (label) name if it 
  56.   exists on the disk.
  57.  
  58. o Added error checking when printer port was selected. In previous
  59.   version if you accidentally selected a printer port which you did
  60.   not have a printer attached (ie Port 2) the program would return
  61.   an error message which you couldn't escape from. Program now
  62.   allows port to be selected though a printer may not be attached.
  63.  
  64. o Lengthened field for printer commmand string in the configuration
  65.   editor from 24 characters to 36 characters. This was done to aid
  66.   those who are using DaLabeler on a DeskJet or InkJet printer.
  67.  
  68. o Other minor updates to several screen displays to make interface
  69.   easier to understand, for example while marking files for 
  70.   exclusion from listing.

  74. DaLabeler v4.0 - multiple configuration files / new label size
  75. -----------------------------------------------------------------------

  77. o Multiple configuration files added. You may now have separate 
  78.   configuration files for different printers or different drive 
  79.   sizes (ie 5.25" and 3.5").
  80.  
  81. o Ability to drop to DOS from within the program.
  82.  
  83. o Program now has a registration key distributed to registered users 
  84.   of the program. This key disables the shareware notice at the program 
  85.   start up.
  86.   
  87. o Fixed printed date in the 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" label format. It previously 
  88.   printed the first two characters of the year (19) instead of the last 
  89.   two characters (90).
  90.   
  91. o Prior versions would return an error code when a file size above 1 MEG 
  92.   was cataloged. Fixed program error and slightly modified label formats
  93.   to accommodate larger file size display.
  94.   
  95. o Modified several menus so all are Lotus style, with point and shoot 
  96.   selection.
  97.  
  98. o Help information now displayed when entering information into the 
  99.   configuration editor. No more need to remember which style of label
  100.   is which selection number.

  102. o Changed DOS SET command from DL3 to DL4 to tie in with new version
  103.    numbering.

  105. o Added new installation program that copies program and related files to
  106.   own directory and creates automatic batch file to execute program.

  110. DaLabeler v3.2 - new 3.5" disk label format
  111. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  112.  
  113. o New format for 3.5" disk labels (2 3/4" x 2 3/4").  With this new 
  114.   format, up to 66 filenames per label can be printed.
  115.   
  116. o The number of labels required to print the disk information is now
  117.   shown on the status screen. 
  118.   
  119. o Added option to include directory containing DALABLER.CFG file using
  120.   the DOS SET command.  By using this you can run DaLabeler from any
  121.   directory if it's within your DOS PATH setting.

  125. DaLabeler v3.1 - maintenance release
  126. -----------------------------------------------------------------------

  128. o No new features with this release just a minor problem fixed. The 
  129.   output routines forced LPT1 to be used even if LPT2 was selected in
  130.   the configuration. Routines have been changed to support both LPT1
  131.   and LPT2.
  132.   
  133. o The program will now allow you to override the volume name found on
  134.   the disk. If the disk has a volume name and you have configured
  135.   DaLabeler to prompt you for volume name you may edit the volume name
  136.   (or completely change it).

  140. DaLabeler v3.0 - what's new?
  141. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  142.  
  143. o New label size is now supported. A 4" x 1 1/2" label is now supported
  144.   in addition to the 3 1/2" x 15/16" label.

  146. o Modified the configuration file to include the default label size
  147.   selected. The previous configuration files (either v1.0 or v2.0) will
  148.   automatically be converted to the new format when you edit the
  149.   file from within the program.
  150.  
  151. o Program can now automatically center comments added for disks.
  152.  
  153. o Added complete validation checking when using the configuration editor
  154.   in the program.
  155.   
  156. o Added option where you can now press the UP arrow key to move back up
  157.   through the menus.

  162. DaLabeler v2.0 - what's new?
  163. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  164.  
  165. Many new features and enhancements have been made to DaLabeler from v1.0
  166. thanks to suggestions and comments made plus further ideas from myself 
  167. after releasing v1.0.
  168.  
  169. I will briefly mention each new feature, refer to the documentation for
  170. further explanation.
  171.   
  172. o Wrote my own Lotus 1-2-3 style menu routines to make them much more
  173.   friendlier to use. Arrow keys and alpha character input is now accepted
  174.   in addition to the previous spacebar method. In addition, using the
  175.   ESCAPE key now exists you from all sub-menus. All around major 
  176.   improvement in the user interface.
  177.  
  178. o With the revised menuing routines, a help line is now shown on the
  179.   bottom menu line as each option is highlighted.  
  180.  
  181. o Renamed several functions to make their first field character unique to
  182.   allow for the improved menuing routines.
  183.   
  184. o Moved the DISK DRIVE setting to the main menu, no longer an option of
  185.   CONFIG (now renamed SETUP).
  186.  
  187. o You may now edit/create the DALABELR.CFG file from within the program
  188.   itself. 
  189.   
  190. o File tagging is now available from the 'VIEW' function to allows you
  191.   to tag files for EXCLUSION from the file listing.
  192.  
  193. o New label format added so that you may now added a 38 character comment
  194.   line for each file in addition to the 5 line disk comments.
  195.   
  196. o A revised label header format has been added. Information contained is
  197.   now clearly laid out.
  198.   
  199. o For those disks that require more than one label, the header format
  200.   for each subsequent label has been changed to show the label number,
  201.   (ie 'Label: 2 of 4').
  202.   
  203. o Added a feature where you can now print multiple copies of the label.
  204.   Useful for user groups, companies, etc. that require duplicate labels.
  205.  
  206. o Added status line to show print status (ie 'Printing 1 of 8').
  207.   
  208. o Added error trapping to prevent system from locking up due to disk not
  209.   being present in disk drive.

  211. o Added option to toggle if you want the program to prompt you for the
  212.   disk volume name or not. 
  213.   
  214. o Modified the configuration file to include this new option. In addition
  215.   the version number of the program is also included as the first line
  216.   if the configuration file. The program will automatically reconfigure the
  217.   configuration file from v1.0 to v2.0 format. The volume prompt setting 
  218.   will be set to 'Y', edit the file to change this parameter if necessary.

  223. Ideas are already forming for future versions. Would appreciate hearing from
  224. you on what you would like to see added/enhanced in DaLabeler. Thanks to
